Warm Weather Fishing Tactics & Summer Special Offer

With more beautiful weather forecast for a little while longer yet what better time to brush up on those warm weather fishing techniques. Anchor Lake looks stunning and fishing incredibly well. Although anglers have been successful throughout the day many are choosing to fish during the cooler parts of the day with some people even booking in a 5.30am arrival time or fishing well in to the cooler evenings. If you would like to take advantage of the cooler mornings or evenings then please call Sue to book in.

Warm Weather Tactics

With the warm weather continuing the ideal method to fish in the top 4’ now is a washing line style set up. Using a 12’ leader, a blob on the point and Buzzer/Diawl Bach on the dropper, spaced 6’ apart combined with a nearly static retrieve has resulted in plenty of those lovely summer fish coming to the net. Blobs could also be changed for a Booby (although not for Catch & Release fishing).

Jane Young visited on a particularly hot day and after changing tactics had caught three stunning fish by lunchtime. As well as leaving a lovely review on Facebook , Jane commented “Thanks to a masterclass from Nick! Thank you - Brilliant Day”

With some much-needed rain arriving the lakes are looking great and fishing even better with the fish relishing the fresh cool water. The flies and methods have been varied from small dries fished static on the top to orange blobs stripped quickly lower down in the water.

Anchor Lake

Anchor Lake has been fishing incredibly well with the clear water and fresh rain providing great conditions for the fish. They have been taking a variety of patterns with the most popular being Buzzers, Bloodworms, Damsels and Blobs. Fish have been cruising the edges no more than approximately six foot from the bank. A very slow retrieve has still been the most successful.

Jason Davies & Ben Jones had a great day on Anchor Lake including Jasons 5 1/2lb Rainbow Trout. Jason said ‘Very enjoyable. You’re the best’ and Ben said ‘ Hard but very enjoyable. Best fishery around’.

We are really pleased to be able to continue offering Catch & Release permits however as a reminder please read the rules specific to Catch & Release prior to fishing. These rules are in place to ensure a quick, safe release of the fish. Any queries please contact Sue.

“Fishing for Force” Charity event

We hope that you all enjoyed your bank holiday weekend. What beautiful weather we have had during the last couple of weeks. Making the most of the conditions we welcomed the Devon Salmon & Trout Association for their Junior Fly-Fishing Day. Twelve young people attended the event and I am pleased to report that every one of them caught a fish! If you have a budding angler who would like to join in next time, a further Junior Day will be held in September 2019. Look out for details to be published soon.

On Wednesday 29th May 2019 we welcomed the “Fishing for Force” Charity event to Exe Valley Fishery. See the report below from Chris Guest of Exmoor Fly Fishing

The Fishing for FORCE Cancer charity day was organised by John Dawson and held at the superb Exe Valley Fishery by kind permission of Sue & Nick Hart.

The day started overcast and dimpsey in other words Exmoor weather! Jackie joined me to learn how to fly fish in no time she was throwing nice loops so it was on to the lake ...no pulling lures here it was small flies from the word go .

Jackie with her first ever Trout

She was soon into her first fish of the day, a quick burger and coffee then I took Rory under my wing it wasn’t long before I heard the shout “ I’ve got one I’ve got one” an epic battle ensued before a fin perfect Exe Valley rocket was drawn over the net....several more soon followed.

The fishery is fishing really well and the Trout are up in the water and will readily take a dry.
Thanks must go to John Dawson, Sue Hart and the ladies from Force for putting the day on and raising lots of money for the charity......Chris”

It was great to host this event in aid of such a worthy cause and both Nick & I would like to extend our thanks to the organisers for all their hard work, especially as several young people were introduced to fly fishing during the day while several hundred pounds were raised for charity.

Next time look out for an up to date report on how the lakes are fishing (although the pictures above speak for themselves!) and also there is a great offer available for all those people looking for a very special fathers day gift.

Thanks as always for reading and please remember if I can be of any assistance the number to call is 01398 323008
