December Update – Lakes Improvements, The Shop Re-Opens & Smoked Trout returns to Exe Valley

The summer weather was not kind to the fishery requiring the lakes to be closed while Sue took on a job, as for several months there was no cashflow available via the business. We are pleased to say that Sue has now returned to the fishery full time and Anchor Lake is fully open and fishing really well. For those who enjoy the sport but don’t want the fish, remember we are one of the only West Country venues with a Catch & Release Permit available for just £25.

Shop & Café Re-Opens

We have welcomed many anglers since re-opening the lakes in October including three larger groups throughout November whom we are happy to report have enjoyed some really good sport. The fish have been in the surface layers, responding well to natural or black patterns. Now that Sue has returned on a full-time basis the website will be regularly updated and she will be available at the lakes from 10.00am to 2.00pm Tuesday to Friday. The fishery will also be manned by one of us from 9.00am until 1.00pm on a Saturday.

Please note that the lakes will be open as usual on a 7 day per week self-serve basis. During shop opening hours permits can be paid for by debit/credit card, light refreshments and tackle will also be available along with our new range of smoked fish, duck & cheese. The shop will be closed on Sunday & Monday.

Lake Improvements

Bankside maintenance has continued on both Anchor and Lobbs lakes with more non-slip turf laid, the woodchip path replenished, and a new handrail installed between Lobbs & Anchor Lake. Following the poor growing season for stock fish we are also happy to report that the fish farm is now fully replenished and the lakes are being stocked regularly with our famous hard fighting Trout.

Anchor Lake closed again on Saturday 14th July 2018 for more weeding

Thank you to all the people who helped out with the weeding of Anchor Lake last weekend.  We made a big dent in the unwanted underwater vegetation but more needs to be removed!

PHOTO-2018-07-10-21-14-04.jpg

Please note that the fishery will be closed again on Saturday 14th July to enable this.  As reported last time, the good news is that the algae has not taken hold so once the weeding is completed the lakes will offer great sport.  An update will follow once the work has been completed and we apologise if the closure has caused any inconvenience.

If you would like to help out with the weeding on Saturday 14th July, we are meeting at 7am to begin, a pair of gloves, old clothing and/or waders are a good idea.  There is free fishing available for those who lend a hand.  Please see the Exe Valley Fishery Facebook Page for further updates and to register and interest please contact us through the comments area, private messages or call 01398 323008

Anchor Lake closed for weeding party on Sunday 8th July 2018

We apologise for any inconvenience but the lake will be closed for one day on Sunday 8th July 2018 for a party of anglers who are assisting with the clearance of weed from the fishery.

The weed needs to be cleared ... but look ... at last ... no algae!  This picture was taken in late June 2018.

The weed needs to be cleared ... but look ... at last ... no algae!  This picture was taken in late June 2018.

The good news is that we seem to be winning the battle against algae which is at its lowest level for over a decade, despite the very high temperatures experienced during the last few weeks.

Once the weed has been cleared please look out for an update and once again our apologies if you were planning to fish on Sunday 8th.  This maintenance is essential and will enable the lake to remain open throughout the summer month.

You can also keep up to date on our Exe Valley Fishery Facebook Page

Finally, huge thanks to all those people who have offered to help us clear the weed, we very much appreciate the response and look forward to welcoming you on Sunday - "many hands make light work"

Please note that the event is fully subscribed but if you would like to be considered for the next one the deal is a days work on the fishery for two three fish permits, plus a BBQ & Beer.

Register interest below in the comments section, give us a call or send over an email.  Messages can also be sent via Facebook.

More soon and thanks for reading.

Anchor Lake – Closed Until Further Notice

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this post to report that Anchor Lake is now closed until further notice.  After considerable investment in time and money during the last 12 months to improve the venue we are devastated but due to the enormous increase in the amount of weed during the last 2 weeks we have no other option.

29th June 2016 - Anchor Lake is closed until further notice.

29th June 2016 - Anchor Lake is closed until further notice.

We thank all of you for your support during the season so far and cannot apologise enough that we have been unable to remain open.  Behind the scenes we are working around the clock with various professionals to address the situation and if we succeed Anchor Lake will reopen.  Lobbs Lake is weed free and remains open as usual.

Please do not travel to the fishery in the hope of fishing on Anchor as the lake will not be in use until further notice.  Details will appear here as soon as more news is available or please contact the office on 01398 323008

This is a dark day for the fishery and the first time that this action has been needed during the last 10 years that we have been involved with the management of the venue.   Once again we apologise for the inconvenience and hope to have some better news for you in the coming weeks.
