An angler enjoys a moody week of weather at Exe Valley this week

The weather this week has transformed Anchor Lake numerous times with everything from moody low laying fog to beautiful sunshine and unfortunately very high winds and copious amounts of rain! Let’s hope things improve in time for Christmas.

Cold clear water, big blue sky & sun - perfect winter conditions!

Mr Crane caught this lovely full tailed 3lb Rainbow Trout on an Orange Cruncher and entered the Troutmasters Competition which we are pleased to say the fishery will continue to be part of in 2019. He also sent a message to say “Fished on 4th December and caught three good fish, 2 at 2lb 12oz and 1 at 3lb. Enjoyable day. Sue was there, friendly & helpful”

We Are Open

Anchor Lake is once again open for fishing.  We have received several enquiries from anglers keen to fish and have therefore opened the doors in time for the weekend.

Please note that there is weed present in the lake although the algae situation is much improved.  Dry flies and top water tactics will be needed, long leaders tied to goldheads and heavy lures will result in frustration rather than good fishing!

Exe Valley has reopened for fishing although tactics will need to be used to reflect the presence of weed.  Dries and small nymphs fished the surface will work well especially now the air temperature has cooled,

We advise that all anglers check the lake prior to making a decision to purchase a permit (which must be paid for prior to fishing), please see the relevant rules and details regarding the current conditions in the permit hut.  A fresh stocking will take place in time for bank holiday weekend.

Exe Valley Fishery - CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Unfortunately despite a huge effort to remove weed and keep the venue functioning, sadly the decision has been taken today, 26.07.18 to close down until such time that conditions improve.  With very little flow into the lake and the extreme heat the algae has now finally taken hold, rendering fishing nearly impossible despite repeated skimming and subsurface work.  It would also be cruel to stock fish in such conditions.

Even repeated skimming and many hours of lavbour has not improved the situation

Thank you to Blair Woodland, Simon Autton, Chris Guest, Terry Humphries, Daniel Osmond, Andrew Berwick and John Ackhurst for all your assistance and strong arms recently.  We tried our best!

This past weekend we managed to keep the water clear and the anglers who fished caught some cracking Trout including this 7lb 8oz to one of the rods.  Note the pile of weed pulled out of the lake in the background!

A cracking 7lb 8oz fish caught on 21.07.18 ... but sadly the lake has deteriorated so much this week that the fishery will be closed until further notice.

Rain is forecast but it will take a big influx of cool water and falling air temperatures to make any real difference.  I apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause but see no other alternative in the circumstances.  We hope to see you when conditions improve because so far with the hard winter followed by the continued heatwave this has been perhaps the most difficult seasons for the fishery on record ... and we have had some tough ones!

Troutmasters Fish Off Cancelled on 18.03.18 due to Extreme Weather – New Date Set as Saturday 24th March 2018

Well so much for the Spring is in the Air post!  It appears the beast is back and more extreme weather is about to hit the West Country.

Unfortunately with forecasts of strong NE winds, snow and temperatures in the minuses we have no other option but to postpone this weekends fish off on Sun 18th March 2018.  Please do not attend as the competition will not be taking place! The fishery will of course be open to anyone mad enough to want to enjoy a Baltic session of small stillwater trout fishing...!

The new date set is the following week on Saturday 24th March 2018 which is the only date available that does not clash with other local fish offs and Easter.  We have contacted all competitors by phone to explain the situation.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you will/wont be attending the rescheduled fish off on Saturday 24th March.
